Roaches and Their Control in Florida

Australian CockroachRoaches are among the most universally hated insects in the world because of their filth, the diseases they transmit, and their rapid reproductive potential.

There are many species of roaches, but only a few are commonly encountered as pests in Florida, most notably the American Cockroach, the Australian Cockroach, and the German Cockroach. Although pretty much equally hated, their habits and control methods are very different. Long-lasting control is best attained using a comprehensive program of sanitation, habitat modification, and (when needed) insecticide application.

Roaches have been implicated in the transmission of serious diseases including salmonella, staphylococcus, streptococcus, and E. coli. They also aggravate asthma and other respiratory conditions and trigger allergic reaction in sensitive individuals. Their ability to adapt and their prolific reproduction make roach control a job for professionals.
